10 Ways to Hack This ‘Adulting’ Thing
It’s all the rage, everyone is doing and by ‘doing it’ I mean growing up. Whether we want to or not,( many of us prefer not to) it’s happening and we just have to learn to deal with it. Therefore, we’ve come up with a few ways to help you through this long drastic things called….Adulthood.
Step 1: Land a Job or Career– First thing about becoming an adult is learning how to support yourself finding your dream job or just getting something that helps pay the bills and maintains your lifestyle is the first step into entering adulthood.
Step 2: Have Your Own Space- Whether you live at home, with a roommate or on your own create a space where you are comfortable with unwinding, relaxing and getting comfortable. Having this space is very important to your work life balance and maintaining your sanity.
Step 3: Start a Savings- I know for many of us young adults this is something that is completely cringe worthy, but even if it’s just 10 bucks a week or 50 bucks a paycheck; having something to lean on during hard times is definitely worth your wild and you will thank your self later (I promise). However, if you are able to start a saving now please do so your future self will love you for it.
Step 4: Make a Grocery List- Making a grocery list believe it or not helps with not spending unnecessary money and focusing on the things that your need, not the things that you want. The list not only helps with saving money but allowing you stay concentrated and getting in and out of your more than likely busy grocery store in a timely manner.
Step 5: Prepare for Upcoming Week- Have you ever heard the phrase “ a Sunday well spent brings a week of content” this honestly could be the closest thing to the truth. On Sunday’s you should be preparing, get out your planner and write down what goals needs to be accomplished for this week. Go to the grocery store and try to run all of your errands on the SAME day. Sundays is also for meal prepping, cook something that will last for at least the next three days, prepare your lunch for the week as well while you are at it.
In addition, pick out your outfits for the entire week. Fold them and place them in a drawer or on one side of the closet. If you go to the gym a few nights out of the week, prepare your gym back too. You’ll thanks us later.
Step 6: Write Out Your Goals- For the next 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1year and then write out the steps to accomplish those goals. Whether it’s saving money, moving into your own apartment, graduating from university or college, landing a career, buying a home, moving to a different city, state or country. Develop your steps as to how you are going to get there.
Step 7: Establish and Maintain Good Credit– If you haven’t heard credit is literally the Holy Grail, it is literally everything. You must understand that you cannot do anything and I mean anything unless your credit is established and in good shape. Wanting to rent or buy a home? Your credit must be great, purchasing a vehicle? Credit, again must be good, or wanting to do anything that requires a big purchase? Your credit must be good.
Step 8: Managing and Budgeting Your Finances- Managing and keeping track of finances, paying bills on time, saving money is definitely key to growing and becoming a responsible adult.
Step 9: Balancing Work and Social Life- Learning to manage a well-balanced work, school and social life will bring tranquility and serenity to your well-being. Understanding that there is time for everything and understand sometimes, somethings requiring more time will certainly assist with a healthy balanced life.
Step 10: Self Care- Last but not least, adulting can be hard but taking care of yourself should be the easiest of all (not all the time). However, learn how to step back, take a break, look at what you’ve accomplished and give yourself a pat on the back or a day to just rest. By spending some quality time with loved ones, having a spa day, taking a day trip or whatever else you want to do – do that.
